Nigerian music sensation Asake has once again proven his dominance in the global music industry with the release of his third album, Lungu Boy. Dropped on August 9, 2024, the album quickly shot to No. 2 on the US Apple Music chart, a record achievement only previously matched by Burna Boy’s I Told Them and Davido’s Timeless.
In addition to its success in the US, Lungu Boy claimed the top spot on the Apple Music UK chart, making it Asake’s third consecutive album to reach No. 1 in the UK. The album features an impressive lineup of international collaborations, including Grammy-winning Nigerian superstar Wizkid, British rap icons Central Cee and Stormzy, American rapper Travis Scott, and Brazilian singer Ludmila.
Lungu Boy also set a new streaming record on Spotify Nigeria. The album’s track “MMS,” featuring Wizkid, achieved 870,000 streams on its first day, surpassing the previous record of 626,000 streams held by Wizkid’s “IDK” featuring Zlatan.
Asake’s rapid rise to global stardom is marked by previous successes, including sold-out performances at prestigious venues such as the O2 Arena in London and Madison Square Garden in New York. His debut album, Mr. Money With The Vibe, won the Album of the Year award at the 2023 Headies, while his sophomore album, Work of Art, featured the hit single “Lonely At The Top,” which holds the record for the longest-charting song on the TurnTable Top 100.
With the release of Lungu Boy, Asake continues to solidify his status as a leading figure in both the Nigerian and international music scenes, setting new benchmarks and breaking records along the way.
