Famous Nollywood actress Laide Bakare has accused the Nigeria police of brutality in a viral Instagram post on Sunday. Bakare alleged that police officers stopped her along the Ikorodu Expressway on Saturday, entered her car, and drove away with her 14-year-old daughter to an unknown destination. She claimed the officers targeted her because of her expensive car, demanding her ATM card and withdrawing N70,000.

Laide in a now viral post on her Instagram page on Sunday, accused the police of brutality.
The Yoruba actress explained that the incident happened on Saturday along the Ikorodu Expressway.
“For the first time, I experienced the brutal way Nigerians are being treated along that axis.
“I cannot imagine how someone with a brain and sanity will drive someone’s car away with a minor in it.
“A lot is happening in this country that needs to be attended to. My daughter was left terrified because of the incident.
“The police targeted only big cars and vulnerable people to exploit and rob. Just because they needed our ATM card to take out N70,000,” she alleged.
In response, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, the Police Public Relations Officer for the Lagos State Command, stated that Bakare was stopped for driving on the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) lane, a traffic violation. Hundeyin explained that Bakare was fined N70,000 for the offence, which she paid, and received a receipt before her vehicle was returned to her. He denied any physical harm or robbery, asserting that the officers acted according to the law.
