The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) is set to release the results of the May/June 2024 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) today, Monday, 12th August 2024. This release marks a critical milestone for the 1.8 million candidates who took the exams, as they prepare for university admissions and other academic pursuits.
WAEC’s Head of National Office (HNO), Dr. Amos Dangut, will officially announce the results at the council’s headquarters in Yaba. The results are being released 45 days after the final exam was conducted, maintaining WAEC’s commitment to timely results processing.
The 2024 WASSCE was administered to 1,814,344 students from 22,229 secondary schools nationwide. The candidates, nearly evenly split between male and female students, were tested across 76 subjects and 197 papers. Over 30,000 teachers were involved in supervising the examination process.
The release of these results is particularly important as it will enable candidates to proceed with applications to universities, polytechnics, and colleges of education for the 2023/2024 academic session. Many students who took the WASSCE as “awaiting results” applicants are now poised to complete their admissions process, with several institutions already scheduling Post-UTME screenings and tests.
In addition to the physical release, WAEC will provide digital copies of the certificates, accessible through a dedicated online platform, ensuring that students can quickly and easily access their credentials.
Dr. Dangut also assured that the printed certificates would be delivered to schools within 90 days, allowing students to move forward with their academic and career plans without unnecessary delays.
