The University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN), has taken action against a senior lecturer, Mr. Mfonobong Udoudom, who was caught in a viral video allegedly attempting to coerce a female student into sexual activity in exchange for grades. The lecturer, associated with the General Studies division, was seen in the video partially undressed and sobbing.
In response, UNN has suspended Mr. Udoudom indefinitely pending a thorough investigation by a disciplinary panel. The university clarified that he is not a professor, as previously reported.
Simultaneously, a 400-level student named John Elekwachi from the Combined Social Sciences Department has been reported missing since April 15, 2024. Witnesses stated that he was taken away by unidentified armed individuals in four Hilux vehicles.
The university has emphasized its zero-tolerance policy towards sexual misconduct involving staff and students. UNN has committed to a thorough investigation and will apply appropriate sanctions if Mr. Udoudom is found guilty.
Efforts are underway to locate John Elekwachi, and UNN has expressed its dedication to protecting students from abuse and exploitation.
The university’s actions come amidst growing concerns and public scrutiny over these incidents.
