The kidnapping occurred on the Funtua-Bisau Road in Zamfara State. The corps members were intercepted by gunmen, sparking a coordinated response by security forces, including the Nigerian Army, Police, DSS, and local authorities. The NYSC DG, in a press briefing on Friday, revealed that all eight corps members have been safely rescued after nearly two weeks in captivity.
Brigadier General Ahmed emphasized the importance of avoiding night travel and reassured the public that the safety and welfare of corps members remain a top priority. He also praised the resilience of the rescued individuals and acknowledged the efforts of all involved in the successful operation.
Further details about the rescue operation were not disclosed, but the NYSC DG noted that one of the masterminds behind the kidnapping had been neutralized, though no arrests have been made.
The NYSC has reiterated its commitment to the safety of its members and advised prospective corps members to adhere to safety guidelines during their service year.
