Cash App Users Eligible for Up to $2,500 in $15 Million Data Breach Settlement—Here's How to Claim

Cash App users impacted by a major data breach could receive up to $2,500 each as part of a $15 million class-action settlement. The settlement comes after a lawsuit accused Cash App Investing and its parent company, Block Inc., of failing to protect user data, leading to unauthorized access and financial losses for millions of customers.

What Happened?

In December 2021, a data breach exposed the personal information of 8.2 million current and former Cash App users. The breach was linked to a former employee who improperly accessed and downloaded sensitive user data. Additionally, other incidents involved unauthorized users gaining access to Cash App accounts through linked phone numbers.

Who Can File a Claim?

You may be eligible if:

  • You had a Cash App account at any time between August 23, 2018, and August 20, 2024.
  • You experienced unauthorized account access, fraudulent transactions, or data breaches and have not yet been reimbursed.

What Can You Claim?

  1. Out-of-Pocket Expenses: Reimbursement of up to $2,500 for costs such as credit monitoring, identity theft insurance, card replacement fees, and bank account changes.
  2. Lost Time: Compensation of up to three hours at $25 per hour for time spent dealing with the aftermath of the breach.
  3. Transaction Losses: Reimbursement for unauthorized transactions, provided you have supporting documentation like a police report.

How to File a Claim

To submit a claim, visit the settlement website at https://cashappsecuritysettlement.com/submit-claim. You’ll need to complete the claim form and submit it by November 18, 2024.

Important Deadlines

  • Claim Submission Deadline: November 18, 2024
  • Opt-Out or Objection Deadline: November 1, 2024

What If There Isn’t Enough Money?

If the $15 million settlement fund isn’t enough to cover all approved claims, payouts will be reduced proportionally among claimants.

If you prefer to pursue separate legal action, you can opt out of the settlement by November 1. Otherwise, if you do nothing, you forfeit any potential payment and the right to sue for the same issues.

Take advantage of this settlement if you were affected, and ensure your claim is submitted by the deadline.
