Struggling South African Actor Carlo Radebe Seeks Public Support Amid Financial Crisis

South African veteran actor Carlo Radebe, once a household name for his role as Duke Ngcobo on the hit TV series Backstage, is facing a severe financial crisis and is appealing to the public for assistance.

In a candid Facebook post, Radebe shared the harsh realities of his life after nearly three years without work. The actor, who also starred in productions like iNumber Number and How To Steal 2-Million, revealed that he has been struggling to survive, relying on the government’s Social Relief of Distress Grant of just R350.

The COVID-19 pandemic severely impacted his career, leading to his eviction and leaving him without a stable income. Despite the challenges, Radebe remains hopeful, stating, “I’m holding on with dogged determination, waiting for the dam to burst and for work to start rolling my way before the year is over.”

Earlier this year, fans and well-wishers responded generously to his appeal for help, but those funds quickly ran out. Now, Radebe is reaching out once more, asking for financial support to help him through this critical period. “The donations I received in April only lasted four days. Promises of work and a place to live fell through, leaving me adrift with no follow-up or apology,” he wrote.

Radebe’s situation highlights the challenges faced by many in the entertainment industry, particularly during and after the pandemic. His plea serves as a reminder of the importance of community support in times of need. Fans and supporters are encouraged to contribute to help the beloved actor through this difficult chapter of his life.
