Longwe Twala and Sello Twala, sons of acclaimed music producer Sello “Chicco” Twala, were arrested for allegedly breaking into their father’s studio and stealing valuable music equipment. The incident, which occurred while Chicco was in the United States, has deepened the family’s ongoing struggles with addiction and legal issues.
Chicco confirmed the theft, stating, “I won’t sit and watch a drug addict continuously stealing from me and be silent.” He accused his sons of colluding to steal equipment worth thousands of rands, with Longwe allegedly jumping over high walls to access the studio. “Longwe and Sello have been stealing from me for a long time, and enough is enough,” Chicco added, expressing his frustration over the repeated offenses.
The arrest follows Longwe’s ongoing battle with drug addiction. Earlier this year, Longwe was readmitted to a rehabilitation center after relapsing. He had previously received treatment in 2022 but fell back into his addiction.
This latest legal trouble comes amid renewed scrutiny of Longwe’s potential involvement in the 2014 murder of former Bafana Bafana and Orlando Pirates goalkeeper Senzo Meyiwa. During recent court proceedings, a lawyer claimed Longwe shot Meyiwa with his father’s gun, though ballistic tests confirmed the firearm did not match the bullets found at the crime scene. The ongoing trial has stirred controversy, with multiple individuals, including Longwe, being linked to the case.
Chicco’s statement highlighted the broader issue of addiction and its impact on families. “I’ve seen parents killed by their own children because of drugs,” he lamented. “I hope my sons will learn from this, but I won’t shield them from the consequences of their actions.”
The Twala brothers are expected to appear in court soon, as the family’s turmoil continues to unfold publicly.
