The Northern Senators Forum (NSF) and citizens of Niger Republic have praised the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) for lifting sanctions imposed on Niger Republic following the military takeover in July 2023.
ECOWAS’ decision was hailed as a compassionate approach to regional solidarity, human rights, and economic stability. The NSF particularly appreciated the restoration of electricity, open borders, and the lifting of sanctions, believing it will foster regional integration and cooperation.
Nigeriens expressed joy over the lifting of sanctions, anticipating a return to normalcy. Despite celebrations, concerns lingered about ongoing violence and jihadist attacks along Niger’s borders.
The forum urged the Niger junta to expedite the return to democratic governance for national prosperity. It emphasized dialogue and peaceful solutions for regional stability, appreciating ECOWAS leaders for their intervention and underscoring the importance of resolving differences through diplomacy.
