Namibian President Hage Geingob, aged 82, has passed away at Lady Pohamba Hospital in Windhoek after undergoing treatment for cancer, as announced last month. His death was confirmed by acting president Nangolo Mbumba.
Geingob, a liberation struggle icon and key figure in Namibian history, had been receiving treatment in the United States and returned to Namibia on February 2. Despite a history of health issues, including brain surgery in 2013 and surviving prostate cancer in 2014, Geingob continued to fulfill his presidential duties until his recent passing.
The nation mourns the loss of a distinguished leader and architect of Namibia’s constitution.
