The former Director-General of Equatorial Guinea’s National Financial Investigation Agency, Baltasar Engonga, has been jailed at Black Beach Prison following a shocking scandal involving over 400 leaked sex tapes featuring him with wives of prominent figures. Engonga, arrested on corruption and embezzlement charges, faced a public outcry as the tapes circulated online. The scandal came to light during a fraud investigation that led to a search of his home and office, uncovering incriminating footage.
In response, Equatorial Guinea’s President, Obiang Nguema Mbasogo, dismissed Engonga from his role, citing “irregularities” and conduct unbecoming of a public official, per Decree No. 118/2024. His dismissal and subsequent imprisonment sparked nationwide debate and calls for stricter ethical governance.
Vice President Teddy Nguema announced immediate measures to prevent future misconduct, including suspending the women identified in the tapes who worked under Engonga and ordering the installation of CCTVs across government agency offices. Nguema stated these steps reflect a “zero-tolerance policy” for behavior that undermines public trust. The government has also prohibited sexual relations within office premises, emphasizing accountability and professionalism in all state institutions.
In a meeting with top officials, including the President of the Supreme Court, Nguema underscored the need for thorough investigation to preserve the nation’s dignity and restore integrity to public administration.
