Substitute Daichi Kamada fired home the winning goal in the 64th minute, capitalizing on a misplaced pass by Villa’s Diego Carlos. Kamada’s powerful low strike from the edge of the area sealed the game and put Palace one step closer to a potential trophy.
Eberechi Eze had earlier put Palace ahead in the eighth minute, heading in a pinpoint cross from Daniel Muñoz. Aston Villa equalized before halftime, with Jhon Durán slotting in a low shot off a Leon Bailey cross, despite a touch from Palace’s debutant goalkeeper, Matt Turner.
The victory came with setbacks, however, as both Eze and Adam Wharton left the field with injuries in the first half. While Palace’s fans celebrated advancing to the quarter-finals, concerns remain about the availability of two of their key players for the upcoming Premier League matches. Palace will now prepare to face Arsenal in the quarter-finals in mid-December.
