Newcastle United delivered a strong performance at St. James’ Park, defeating Chelsea 2-0 to advance to the Carabao Cup quarterfinals.

Alexander Isak opened the scoring in the 23rd minute, capitalizing on a turnover forced by Sandro Tonali just outside Chelsea’s penalty area. Three minutes later, Joe Willock’s flick deflected off Chelsea defender Axel Disasi for an own goal, putting Newcastle firmly in control.

Despite Chelsea’s attempts to rally in the second half, they struggled to break through Newcastle’s defense. Joao Felix missed a key opportunity to cut the deficit, and substitute Noni Madueke added energy but couldn’t turn possession into goals. Chelsea’s Enzo Maresca opted to keep Nicolas Jackson on the bench, with the absence of playmaker Cole Palmer also felt throughout the game.

Newcastle substitute William Osula nearly made it 3-0, but his shot struck the post in the final minutes. The Newcastle faithful applauded their team’s strong showing, as the club looks to claim its first major domestic trophy since winning the FA Cup in 1955. Newcastle now gears up to host Brentford in the quarterfinals at St. James’ Park in December.
