San Francisco 49ers cornerback Charvarius Ward shared the tragic news of his 1-year-old daughter Amani Joy’s passing on Monday, marking an unimaginable loss for Ward and his family. In an emotional Instagram post, Ward expressed his heartbreak and shared memories of Amani’s infectious happiness, resilience, and strength. “She was the best blessing we could have asked for, and her joyous spirit made us smile from ear to ear,” Ward wrote. “She taught us patience, trust, and positivity. She was always happy, lighting up every room with her smile. We’ll miss you and love you forever, Amani Joy.”

Ward previously shared that Amani was born with Down syndrome and had endured heart issues from birth, including two holes in her heart, one of which required surgery. Her bravery throughout these challenges was a source of inspiration to him both on and off the field, especially during his standout 2023 season, which saw him achieve his first Pro Bowl and second-team All-Pro selections.

In a statement, the 49ers organization expressed their condolences, saying, “The 49ers family is devastated by the passing of Charvarius Ward’s beloved daughter, Amani Joy. Amani truly embodied pure happiness, and her contagious laugh brought joy to all around her. We continue to grieve with Charvarius and Monique and are here to support them during this unimaginable time.”

Ward and his partner, Monique, are expecting a son in February, a recent joy they had announced. In this difficult moment, the couple is surrounded by the support of Ward’s teammates, the 49ers community, and fans as they remember Amani’s enduring spirit.
