Rapper A$AP Rocky, the partner of global pop icon Rihanna, is reportedly planning to invest £15 million in Tranmere Rovers, a League Two football club. The deal, which is part of a larger investment group led by celebrity lawyer Joe Tacopina, aims to acquire an 80% stake in the Merseyside-based club from current owner Mark Palios.
Inspired by the remarkable rise of Wrexham AFC under the ownership of Hollywood stars Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney, A$AP Rocky hopes to replicate their success with Tranmere. Wrexham’s promotion from the National League to League One, along with their hit documentary series, has attracted celebrities to English football, including former NFL star Tom Brady, who invested in Birmingham City.
Tranmere Rovers, currently sitting 16th in League Two, are looking for external investment to finance their ambitions, including a potential new stadium. Palios, who has owned the club since 2014, has previously emphasized the need for sustainable financial growth without relying on constant external funding.
A$AP Rocky is said to be “committed” to the deal, with plans to attend matches at Prenton Park once the acquisition is complete. There’s speculation that Rihanna may also make appearances, following in the footsteps of Blake Lively, who supports her husband, Ryan Reynolds, at Wrexham games.
In addition to the investment, there are talks of creating a documentary about Tranmere Rovers to further boost the club’s profile, mirroring the success of the Wrexham series. Tacopina believes Tranmere is undervalued and sees an opportunity to market the club internationally, particularly in the U.S.
This high-profile involvement could transform the fortunes of Tranmere Rovers, a club that has never played in England’s top-flight but has a passionate local following. With A$AP Rocky’s celebrity influence and Tacopina’s business acumen, the team could see a new chapter of growth, both on and off the pitch.
