Portugal moved closer to securing a spot in the Nations League quarterfinals with a 0-0 draw against a determined Scotland at Hampden Park. Though it was the first time Roberto Martinez’s team dropped points in the tournament, they remain top of Group A1 with 10 points, three ahead of Croatia.

Cristiano Ronaldo, making his 200th appearance for Portugal, had several opportunities to score but missed a crucial header and a bicycle kick. Scotland’s goalkeeper Craig Gordon produced a series of brilliant saves to deny Portugal, including a late effort from Bruno Fernandes.

Despite dominating possession and creating numerous chances, Portugal couldn’t break through Scotland’s disciplined defense. Martinez acknowledged the lack of finishing in the final third, saying, “We controlled the game but missed that final spark to score.”

For Scotland, the draw ended a four-game losing streak and provided a morale boost. Coach Steve Clarke commended his team’s hard work and defensive organization, stating, “It’s not about turning a corner; it’s about playing with pride and showing fight.”

Portugal will secure a quarterfinal spot with at least a draw against Poland in their next match, while Scotland remains at the bottom of the group with just one point.
