Spain Secure Nations League Quarterfinal Spot with 3-0 Win Over Serbia

Spain advanced to the UEFA Nations League quarterfinals with a dominant 3-0 victory over Serbia on Tuesday, securing their place in the knockout stages. Aymeric Laporte, Álvaro Morata, and Álex Baena provided the goals as Spain comfortably outclassed Serbia, despite some tense moments in the match.

Spain took control early, with Laporte heading in the opener just five minutes in. Though they dominated possession and created numerous chances, the game remained within reach for Serbia until the 65th minute when Morata scored Spain’s second after missing a penalty earlier. Serbia had a chance to equalize just before that, but Aleksandar Mitrovic failed to convert a golden opportunity.

Serbia’s hopes were dashed when Strahinja Pavlovic received a red card for a foul on Mikel Oyarzabal in the 78th minute. From the resulting free kick, Baena curled a beautiful shot into the top corner to seal Spain’s win.

With the victory, Spain secured a top-two finish in League A Group Four and joined Germany in the quarterfinals. Despite missing several key players due to injuries, Spain showed their depth and resilience, putting in a commanding performance with 30 shots compared to Serbia’s three.

Captain Álvaro Morata praised the team’s effort, saying, “We are in another final stage of a major tournament, and we have to appreciate how special this is. Despite missing some key players, young talents have stepped up, and Spain has an incredible future.”

Spain’s win followed their 1-0 victory over Denmark on Saturday, cementing their position at the top of the group with 10 points, three ahead of Denmark and six clear of Serbia.
