Marin’s Late Penalty Stuns Juventus as Cagliari Escape with 1-1 Draw

juventus vs cagliari

Juventus’ unbeaten run in Serie A took a hit as a late penalty from Razvan Marin secured a 1-1 draw for Cagliari in Turin on Sunday. The result marks the first time this season Juventus have conceded a goal, denying them a chance to move into second place in the league.

Dusan Vlahovic put Juventus ahead in the 15th minute, converting a penalty after Sebastiano Luperto was penalized for handball. Vlahovic’s goal, his fifth in three games, seemed to put Juventus in control. However, despite dominating the game, they failed to capitalize on several key chances, with Vlahovic missing a golden opportunity late in the second half.

Cagliari, content to play on the counter, made Juventus pay for their missed opportunities. In the 88th minute, Roberto Piccoli was fouled by Douglas Luiz in the box, and Marin calmly dispatched the resulting penalty, firing into the top corner to level the score.

The final minutes saw Juventus reduced to 10 men as Francisco Conceição received a second yellow card for simulation. Cagliari nearly grabbed a dramatic winner in stoppage time when Adam Obert’s shot hit the post, but they held on for an impressive point.

The draw leaves Juventus in third place with 13 points, two behind league leaders Napoli, while Cagliari remain 15th with six points, earning a valuable result from a tough away fixture.
