Nigerian actor and activist Yomi Fabiyi has fled the country after claiming he narrowly escaped two assassination attempts. Fabiyi, known for his vocal support of the Justice for Mohbad movement, revealed in a video on Instagram that his life is in danger due to his involvement in the case surrounding the death of late singer, Mohbad.
Fabiyi had initially planned to lead a peaceful protest at the Lagos State Assembly on September 30, 2024, coinciding with the resumption of the coroner’s inquest into Mohbad’s death. However, he canceled the protest, citing threats to his life.
In his emotional video, Fabiyi explained that he was forced to leave Nigeria after surviving two assassination attempts in three days. He described a situation where he narrowly escaped death and shared his fear that his continued presence in the country would result in his assassination.
“I escaped assassination two days ago, and they planned to kill me again tonight. If they had succeeded, I would have been buried tomorrow,” Fabiyi stated. He also emphasized that his commitment to seeking justice for Mohbad had made him a target, adding, “I didn’t collect money from anybody. I am just doing my own for God.”
Fabiyi is now in hiding, unsure of his next destination but feeling 80% safe for the time being. Despite the danger, he remains resolute in his pursuit of justice for Mohbad, vowing not to relent even with his life at risk.
Mohbad’s death, which occurred over a year ago, has sparked numerous accusations and conspiracy theories, but the exact circumstances remain unclear. Fabiyi has been at the forefront of the calls for a thorough investigation and accountability.
