Phil Foden shone with a goal and an assist as Manchester City eased to a 4-0 victory over Slovan Bratislava, claiming their first Champions League win of the season.
City took control early, with Ilkay Gundogan’s deflected shot giving them an eighth-minute lead. Just seven minutes later, Foden made it 2-0 with a calm finish, marking his return to form after a slow start to the season due to illness.
Erling Haaland added City’s third goal shortly after half-time, slotting home his 42nd Champions League goal. Foden then set up James McAtee for City’s fourth, with the young midfielder scoring his first goal for the club.
Manager Pep Guardiola, who made six changes from City’s previous match, praised Foden’s performance, noting that he’s still regaining full form after injury setbacks. “He’s not at his best yet, but step by step, he’s coming back,” said Guardiola.
Slovan Bratislava, playing in their first Champions League group stage, were unable to handle City’s relentless attack, though goalkeeper Dominik Takac’s heroics prevented a heavier defeat. This comfortable win boosts City after a draw in their opening group-stage match against Inter Milan.
