Reps Probes EFCC, Bobrisky, and VeryDarkMan Over Alleged ₦15 Million Bribery Scandal

Reps Probes EFCC, Bobrisky, and VeryDarkMan Over Alleged ₦15 Million Bribery Scandal

The House of Representatives has initiated an investigation into serious bribery allegations involving the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), the Nigerian Correctional Service, and social media personality Idris Okuneye, popularly known as Bobrisky. The probe is centered around claims that Bobrisky paid ₦15 million to EFCC officials to drop money laundering charges against him.

In response to the allegations, the House has summoned EFCC Chairman Ola Olukoyede, the Comptroller General of the Nigerian Correctional Service, Bobrisky, and Martins Otse, a social media influencer known as VeryDarkMan, to testify before the Joint Committees on Monday, September 30th. Other key officers involved in Bobrisky’s prosecution and imprisonment have also been called to provide clarity on the matter.

The controversy arose after a leaked voice recording, shared by VeryDarkMan, went viral on social media. In the recording, Bobrisky allegedly discussed how he bribed EFCC officials to secure his release from money laundering charges. It is further alleged that instead of serving his sentence in a regular prison, Bobrisky was placed in a VIP facility.

Reacting swiftly, the EFCC has launched its own investigation into the matter and has asked both Bobrisky and VeryDarkMan to report to their Lagos office to assist with inquiries. The Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) has also called for an independent probe by the Attorney General of the Federation and the National Security Adviser to ensure transparency. The NBA stressed that any officers found guilty of corruption should be prosecuted to restore faith in the country’s justice system.

In a separate development, Folakemi Falana, the daughter of prominent human rights lawyer Femi Falana, has strongly denied bribery accusations involving her father and brother, musician Falz. These claims, also propagated by VeryDarkMan, suggest that the Falanas helped Bobrisky receive preferential treatment during his prison sentence. Folakemi has called the allegations defamatory and baseless, asserting that her family had no involvement in the matter.

The investigations are expected to provide more details about the alleged bribery and whether Bobrisky received favorable treatment during his imprisonment.
