Sean “Diddy” Combs, who is currently facing federal charges of sex trafficking and racketeering, is being held in the same section of the Metropolitan Detention Center (MDC) in Brooklyn as Sam Bankman-Fried, the founder of FTX who was convicted of fraud. Both high-profile figures are reportedly housed in a dormitory-style unit with other inmates.
Combs, who was arrested in September 2023, has pleaded not guilty to accusations of organizing what prosecutors describe as “decades-long” sex trafficking activities. His legal team attempted to secure his release with a $50 million bail package and a 24/7 security team, but the request was denied over concerns of potential witness tampering. Combs now awaits trial and could face life imprisonment if convicted.
Bankman-Fried, who was sentenced to 25 years in prison for his involvement in the multibillion-dollar FTX fraud, has been at the MDC since 2022. Though the two men come from vastly different industries—Combs from the music world and Bankman-Fried from cryptocurrency—they are now housed together while awaiting further legal proceedings.
Combs’ lawyer has criticized the conditions at MDC, calling them “horrific” and unsuitable for pre-trial detainees. However, sources close to Combs say that he is “strong, healthy, and focused on his defense.” He is expected to appear in court again in early October.
