The Nigerian government has revealed the identity of a Canada-based woman, Amaka Patience Sunnberger, who made alarming threats to poison Yoruba and Benin individuals in a viral video. The video, originally posted on TikTok and widely shared on social media, features Sunnberger expressing her intent to harm Nigerians of specific ethnicities, sparking outrage and concern.

In the video, Sunnberger, speaking in Pidgin English, can be heard advocating for the poisoning of Yoruba and Benin people as a form of retaliation against what she described as “hate” towards the Igbo community. “Record me very well; it’s time to start poisoning the Yoruba and the Benin,” she declared, detailing plans to introduce poison into their food and water at her workplace in Ontario, Canada.

The video, which included other participants encouraging her, has drawn significant attention, with many calling for immediate action. In response, Abike Dabiri-Erewa, Chairperson of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission, identified Sunnberger on X (formerly Twitter) and shared her photo. Dabiri-Erewa confirmed that Sunnberger had deleted her TikTok account following the backlash, but noted that a group of concerned Nigerians in Canada is already working to report her to the appropriate Canadian authorities.

This incident has heightened concerns within the Nigerian community in Canada, where over 71,000 Nigerians have gained citizenship in the past 19 years. The Nigerian government’s swift identification of Sunnberger underscores the seriousness of the threats, with many urging increased vigilance and prompt legal action to ensure the safety of Nigerians abroad.
