Liverpool Clinch £10m Deal for Juventus Star Federico Chiesa, Strengthening Attack

Federico Chiesa

Liverpool has secured the signing of Juventus winger Federico Chiesa for £10 million, with an additional £2.5 million in performance-related bonuses. The 26-year-old Italian international, who played a key role in Italy’s Euro 2020 triumph, is set to undergo a medical in Liverpool, marking a significant addition to the squad under new head coach Arne Slot.

Chiesa’s arrival comes as a surprise, given Liverpool’s initial focus on reinforcing their midfield. However, the club’s sporting director, Richard Hughes, hinted at opportunistic signings during the transfer window, and Chiesa fits the bill perfectly. Known for his versatility, Chiesa can operate as a winger or a second striker, adding depth to an already formidable attacking lineup that includes Mohamed Salah, Luis Díaz, Darwin Núñez, Diogo Jota, and Cody Gakpo.

Speaking to reporters before departing Turin, Chiesa expressed his bittersweet feelings about leaving Juventus. “It’s sad to leave, but I’m really happy to start this new adventure,” he said. “I’ll always carry the Juventus fans in my heart.”

This deal follows Liverpool’s recent agreement to sign Georgian goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili from Valencia for £30 million, although Mamardashvili will join the squad next season.

Chiesa’s transfer underscores Liverpool’s strategic approach to strengthening their squad, balancing immediate needs with long-term goals as they aim for domestic and European success.
