In a shocking incident on Friday, August 16, 2024, the Anambra State Commissioner for Youth Development, Patrick Agha Mba, and his wife, Chizoba, were abducted by gunmen in Ubiaja, Esan South-East Local Government Area of Edo State. The attack also claimed the life of one of their aides, A.B. Affiah.
The couple was traveling to Abuja to attend the wedding of Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s daughter, Adaora, scheduled for Saturday, August 17, when their vehicle was ambushed by the gunmen. The assailants killed Affiah before abducting the Commissioner and his wife.
Anambra State Police Command’s spokesperson, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, confirmed the incident, noting that the State Commissioner of Police, CP Nnaghe Obono Itam, is fully aware and has escalated the situation. “Every necessary assistance will be provided by our command,” Ikenga assured.
At this time, neither the Anambra State Government nor the Nigerian Police Force has issued an official statement regarding the kidnapping. The incident has intensified concerns over the security situation in the region, following a series of violent attacks in recent months.
