Nigerian Government Unveils 3 Million Technical Talent (3MTT) Initiative to Empower Youth and Boost Digital Economy

The Nigerian government has launched the 3 Million Technical Talent (3MTT) Programme, an ambitious initiative aimed at creating three million jobs for the nation’s youth and strengthening Nigeria’s position in the global digital economy. This program, announced by the Federal Ministry of Communications, Innovation, and Digital Economy, is a cornerstone of President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

During the Nigeria Police Youth Summit in Abuja, Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, outlined the government’s vision for the 3MTT Programme. Represented by Mallam Jibrin Baba Ndace, Director-General of the Voice of Nigeria, Idris emphasized that the initiative is designed to equip Nigerian youths with essential technical skills that will not only boost their employability but also contribute significantly to national security intelligence.

“The 3MTT Programme is an affirmation of President Tinubu’s vision of factoring youth development into the overall national development strategy. To lay a formidable framework towards achieving this, the administration is also prioritizing the economic security of Nigerian youths, towards building a more secure and prosperous country,” Idris stated.

The first phase of the program, executed in partnership with the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA), will target the training and placement of 30,000 youths in specialized technical fields such as software development, cybersecurity, data analysis, artificial intelligence, and more. These fields have been identified as key drivers of the digital economy, both in Nigeria and globally.

The 3MTT Programme is part of a broader effort to transform Nigeria into a leading digital talent hub. Alongside this initiative, the government has also introduced the Nigerian Education Loan (NEL) Fund to support students in their educational pursuits and the Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) policy to reduce transportation costs by leveraging the country’s abundant natural gas resources.

Idris urged Nigerian youths to take full advantage of these opportunities, highlighting the importance of skill acquisition and moral integrity in contributing to national development.

The 3MTT Programme marks a significant step forward in the government’s efforts to empower the youth, reduce unemployment, and position Nigeria as a key player in the global digital economy.
