Chidimma Adetshina, a rising star in the world of beauty pageants, has accepted an invitation to compete in Miss Universe Nigeria 2024 following her controversial exit from the Miss South Africa competition.
The 23-year-old, who has a Nigerian father and Mozambican mother, found herself at the center of a nationality debate despite holding South African citizenship. Critics questioned her eligibility for Miss South Africa, leading to a xenophobic backlash that prompted an investigation by the Home Affairs department. Concerns about her mother’s nationality status further complicated the situation, forcing Adetshina to make the difficult decision to withdraw from the competition for her family’s safety.
In a heartfelt video shared on Instagram, Adetshina expressed her excitement about the opportunity to represent Nigeria on the international stage. She thanked the organizers of Miss Universe Nigeria, the Silverbird Group, for the invitation and spoke of her anticipation for the upcoming pageant.

If she wins Miss Universe Nigeria, Adetshina will go on to represent Nigeria at the global Miss Universe competition in November, where she could face off against Mia le Roux, the first deaf woman to win Miss South Africa.
