Mia Le Roux Becomes First Deaf Miss South Africa in Historic Win

Mia Le Roux has made history as the first deaf woman to be crowned Miss South Africa, taking home the 2024 title in a groundbreaking victory. The 28-year-old marketing manager and part-time student from Sasolburg, Free State, emerged as the winner at the prestigious event held at SunBet Arena in Pretoria on August 10.

Diagnosed with profound hearing loss at just one year old, Le Roux has defied the odds to become a role model for inclusivity and empowerment. Raised in Oudtshoorn and now residing in Cape Town, she stood out among the finalists, securing the crown after an intense competition.

Le Roux’s win comes with a remarkable prize package, including R1 million in cash, a brand-new Mercedes-Benz CLE Coupe, and a luxurious furnished apartment for her year as Miss South Africa. Her platform as Miss South Africa will focus on advocating for people living with disabilities, highlighting her commitment to making a difference.

The event, hosted by media personality Bonang Matheba, was a dazzling affair, featuring performances by South African stars such as Kamo Mphela and Jesse Clegg. A panel of esteemed judges, including former Miss South Africa titleholders, evaluated the contestants.

Nompumelelo Maduna from Soweto was named the first runner-up, while Onalenna Constantin from Potchefstroom took the second runner-up spot.

Le Roux’s victory is especially significant in the wake of Nigerian-affiliated model Chidimma Vanessa Onwe Adetshina’s withdrawal from the competition following a nationality dispute. This development paved the way for Le Roux to rise to the top, marking a milestone moment in South African pageantry.

Mia Le Roux’s historic win as Miss South Africa 2024 is a powerful testament to resilience and the breaking of barriers, inspiring countless others to embrace their uniqueness and pursue their dreams.
