Inter Miami Advances to Leagues Cup Round of 16 with 4-3 Victory Over Toronto, Despite Early Red Card

Inter Miami overcame adversity to secure a thrilling 4-3 win against Toronto FC, advancing to the Round of 16 in the Leagues Cup 2024. Despite being reduced to 10 men after just 28 minutes, Miami showcased resilience and determination, guided by Jordi Alba’s exceptional performance, where he provided four crucial assists.

The match started with Miami in full control as Matias Rojas opened the scoring just three minutes in, followed by Diego Gomez doubling the lead in the 11th minute. Toronto responded through Lorenzo Insigne, who converted two penalty kicks to bring the score to 3-2 by halftime.

Luis Suarez added Miami’s fourth goal in the 20th minute, his 16th of the season, extending their lead and ensuring Miami stayed ahead despite the challenge of playing a man down. Toronto continued to press and managed to pull one back through an own goal by Miami’s Noah Allen in the 79th minute, but the hosts held on for the victory.

The win was all the more impressive given the absence of Lionel Messi, who missed his fifth consecutive match due to an ankle injury. Despite this, Miami has managed to maintain their strong form, winning eight of their last ten matches without their star player.

Inter Miami will now face either Columbus Crew or Sporting Kansas City in the next round, as they continue their quest to defend their Leagues Cup title.
