Max Verstappen Stands Firm on Heated Radio Comments Following Hungarian GP Frustration
Max Verstappen defended his heated radio messages during the Hungarian Grand Prix, where he finished fifth after a collision with Lewis Hamilton. Frustrated with his car’s performance and Red Bull’s strategy, Verstappen’s comments included several curse words.
When questioned by Sky Sports F1 about apologizing for his language, Verstappen replied, “I don’t think we need to apologize. This is a sport. If some people don’t like that, then stay home.” He later dismissed external criticism with an expletive.
He replied: “They can all f*** off.”
His race engineer, Gianpiero Lambiase, even told him to stop being “childish” on the radio, but Verstappen defended his behavior, insisting he had the right to be vocal. Verstappen blamed Hamilton for the collision, though most observers felt he was at fault. The stewards took no action against either driver.
Despite his frustrations, Verstappen acknowledged McLaren was faster that day and felt poor strategy cost him a podium finish. Red Bull team principal Christian Horner defended Verstappen, saying his frustration was understandable.
Sky Sports F1 pundit Naomi Schiff criticized Verstappen’s “stay home” comment, calling it disrespectful to both team members and fans. She emphasized the importance of maintaining good team relations and being mindful of the public nature of radio communications in F1.
