Manchester United achieved a 2-0 win against Rangers in a pre-season friendly at Murrayfield, with standout performances from new signing Leny Yoro and returning player Jadon Sancho.
Leny Yoro, an 18-year-old defender recently acquired from Lille for £58.9 million, played a crucial role in maintaining a clean sheet during his debut. Paired with Jonny Evans, Yoro displayed impressive defensive skills, including a vital interception against Rangers striker Cyriel Dessers, and completed 92% of his passes. Reflecting on his debut, Yoro said, “It was incredible. I’m happy with my performance and hope we continue like that.”
Jadon Sancho, back in the squad after resolving previous issues with manager Erik ten Hag, played the full 90 minutes. His presence, alongside experienced players like Andre Onana and Casemiro, bolstered the team following their earlier 1-0 defeat to Rosenborg.
Amad Diallo scored the first goal in the 39th minute, assisted by Mason Mount. Diallo cut inside from the right and delivered a precise shot into the corner. Joe Hugill added a second goal in the 70th minute, capitalizing on a clever through-ball from Maxi Oyedele.
Manager Erik ten Hag expressed satisfaction with the team’s performance, emphasizing the importance of teamwork and aggression. “It was much better in terms of aggressiveness. We were on the front foot, and we were a team in both halves,” he said.
Ten Hag also highlighted the potential of Diallo, who had a successful loan spell in the Championship last season. “We have to see Amad in a different way. He is young but not inexperienced anymore. This has to be the year,” Ten Hag added.
This victory and the strong performances from young talents like Yoro and Diallo offer a promising outlook for Manchester United as they prepare for the upcoming season.
