The Minister of Trade, Industry, and Investment, Doris Nkiruka-Anite Uzoka, faced scrutiny from the Senate on December 12th for proposing a budget of N1 billion for a foreign trip to Geneva, Switzerland, in the 2024 budget.
Appearing before the Senate Committee on Trade to defend her budget, Uzoka outlined that N905 million was allocated for overhead costs, while N8.1 billion was designated for capital expenditure.
Expressing his concerns, Senator Adams Oshiomhole, a committee member representing Edo North, remarked, “I noticed you plan to travel to Geneva next year with a budget exceeding N1 billion. We need to reconsider these extravagant foreign trips. Utilize the skilled professionals we have within the country to cut costs. Madam, focus on working for Nigerians from your office.”
