Princess Sheikha Mahra bint Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, daughter of UAE Prime Minister and Dubai ruler Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, has publicly announced her divorce from her husband, Sheikh Mana Bin Mohammed Al Maktoum, on Instagram.
In an unprecedented move for a member of the UAE’s royal family, Sheikha Mahra, 30, shared her decision to end her marriage in an Instagram post on Wednesday. She attributed the divorce to her husband’s infidelity.
“Dear husband, as you are occupied with other companions, I hereby declare our divorce. I divorce you, I divorce you, and I divorce you. Take care. Your ex-wife,” she wrote, invoking the controversial practice of triple talaq. This practice, although banned in some countries, allows a man to instantly divorce his wife by stating the declaration three times. It is uncommon for women to use this method against their husbands.
The couple, who married last year in a grand ceremony, recently welcomed a daughter. The UAE government and Sheikh Mana have not yet commented on the announcement.
Sheikha Mahra’s public declaration defies traditional norms and has sparked widespread attention, shedding light on the changing dynamics within the UAE’s ruling family and society.
