Ekene Abubakar Adams, a member of Nigeria’s House of Representatives representing the Chikun/Kajuru federal constituency of Kaduna under the Labour Party (LP), passed away on Tuesday morning at the age of 39.
Adams, a first-term lawmaker and chairman of the House Committee on Sports, was widely recognized for his dedication to grassroots sports development in Nigeria. Prior to his election in 2023, he served as the general manager of Kada City Football Club and Remo Stars.
House spokesman Akin Rotimi Jr described Adams as a “dedicated public servant, passionate sports administrator, and kind philanthropist.” He added, “Ekene Adams was a kind and gentle humanitarian, loved by all who knew him. His dedication to the development of grassroots sports in Nigeria was unwavering, and his contributions to the House will be deeply missed.”
The death of Adams follows the recent passing of two other House members. Olaide Akinremi, representing Ibadan North Federal Constituency under the All Progressives Congress (APC), died less than a week ago at the age of 51 after a brief illness. Akinremi was known as a grassroots politician and an astute statesman who built strong relationships to benefit his constituency.
In May, Isa Dogonyaro, representing Babura/Garki Federal Constituency of Jigawa State, also passed away. Dogonyaro, a member of the APC, was remembered as a jovial and intellectual patriot who built strong bonds with colleagues from across the country.
These consecutive losses have deeply affected the House of Representatives. The House extends heartfelt condolences to the families, friends, and constituents of the deceased lawmakers, acknowledging their significant contributions and unwavering commitment to their roles and communities.
