The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has intercepted various quantities of cocaine and opioids concealed in shipments bound for the United States, United Kingdom, and Cyprus. The drugs were hidden in shoe soles, clothing, and other items.
In Lagos, NDLEA officers discovered 250 grams of cocaine destined for Cyprus hidden in custom-made shoes. Additionally, over 5 kilograms of opioids, including tramadol, pentazocine injection, morphine sulphate, and ketamine injection, were found in clothes and household items heading to the US and UK. A consignment of 440 grams of “loud,” a synthetic strain of cannabis, coming from Canada was also intercepted in a logistics company.
A significant raid at a warehouse in VGC, Lekki, Lagos, led to the seizure of 148 cartons of non-medical nitrous oxide (laughing gas), 108 cartons of fast gas cylinders, and other items. A female suspect, Suliyat Abdulsalam, was arrested in connection with the seizure.
In Edo State, a vehicle was intercepted at Ewu junction, resulting in the discovery of 3,000 tramadol pills concealed in custard powder. The suspect, Aminu Abdullahi, claimed he bought the drugs in Onitsha and intended to sell them in Abuja. Another operation in Edo saw the destruction of 5,429.751 kg of cannabis on 2.918 hectares of farmland and the arrest of four suspects: Godday Ariye, Friday Okafor, Obinna Nwosu, and Yusuf Adamu.
In Ogun State, NDLEA operatives recovered 2,865 kilograms of cannabis, although the suspect, Umar Ibese, remains at large. In Borno State, a joint operation with the army led to the recovery of 2,455 kilograms of materials for producing a new psychoactive substance, Akuskura. In Katsina State, a 54-year-old man, Sabo Sule, was arrested with 47 kilograms of cannabis.
These operations highlight the NDLEA’s ongoing efforts to combat drug trafficking and its impact across Nigeria.
