Abhishek Singh, a former IAS officer, is at the center of a controversy regarding his disability claims. Singh, who used a claimed locomotor disability to receive concessions in the UPSC civil services selection process, is now under scrutiny after videos of him dancing and working out went viral on social media. Critics are questioning the authenticity of his disability claim.
Singh, a 2011 batch IAS officer from the Uttar Pradesh cadre, had a notable career before resigning in September 2023 to pursue acting full-time. His father, Kripa Shankar Singh, was an IPS officer. Singh’s career included a stint in the national capital from 2015 to 2020 before returning to Uttar Pradesh. He made headlines in 2020 with his acting debut in the short film Char Pandrah and appeared in Netflix’s Delhi Crime Season 2. Additionally, he has been active on social media and featured in music videos with popular singers.
Singh’s resignation followed a period of controversy, including his removal as a general observer for the Gujarat assembly polls in 2022 due to accusations of a publicity stunt. His current situation echoes concerns similar to those faced by other officers with alleged fraudulent disability claims, sparking calls for increased transparency in the civil services selection process.
