Jadon Sancho is poised to rejoin the Manchester United squad following productive discussions with manager Erik ten Hag. Sancho, who has been out of the team since August due to a public disagreement with Ten Hag, has now returned to training with the first team.
Sancho, 24, spent the latter half of the previous season on loan at Borussia Dortmund, helping the team reach the Champions League final. Although he will not be part of the squad for the pre-season friendly against Rosenborg in Norway on Monday, he is expected to be available for upcoming matches.
Manchester United will face Rangers on July 20 in Scotland before embarking on a three-match tour in the United States, where they will play against Arsenal, Liverpool, and Real Betis.
The dispute between Sancho and Ten Hag stemmed from comments made by Sancho after he was dropped for a match against Arsenal in September 2023. Ten Hag insisted that Sancho was excluded due to his performance in training, while Sancho suggested otherwise on social media. The club has not disclosed whether Sancho apologized during their recent meeting.
Despite being open to offers for Sancho this summer, with Juventus showing interest, Manchester United’s valuation of £40 million has proved to be a stumbling block.
In addition to Sancho’s return, Manchester United announced that 36-year-old defender Jonny Evans has signed a one-year contract extension. Evans, who rejoined United last year after stints with West Bromwich Albion and Leicester City, played 30 games across all competitions last season, including the FA Cup final victory over Manchester City. Evans expressed his pride in representing the club and his optimism for the upcoming season.
Sancho, who joined Manchester United from Dortmund in July 2021 for £73 million, has made 82 appearances for the club, scoring 12 goals and providing six assists.
