Emma Navarro defeated No. 2 seed Coco Gauff at Wimbledon, marking her first time reaching the quarterfinals of a Grand Slam tournament. Navarro won 6-4, 6-3 in their fourth-round match on Sunday, continuing a series of upsets among top-seeded women at Wimbledon this year.

Navarro, seeded 19th, expressed her excitement and gratitude after the match, saying, “I don’t have a ton of words, but just really grateful to be out here on Centre Court, at a tournament with so much history and tradition that so many legends have played on before me. It’s a real honor.”

Gauff struggled throughout the match, making 25 unforced errors, particularly on her forehand side, which Navarro targeted effectively. Gauff has yet to advance past the fourth round at Wimbledon, a stage she reached in both 2019 and 2021.

Navarro’s victory came after defeating Naomi Osaka in the second round. She will face Italy’s Jasmine Paolini, the French Open runner-up, in her next match. Paolini advanced after Madison Keys withdrew due to injury.

The tournament has seen several top-seeded women exit early, including No. 1 Iga Swiatek and reigning champion Markéta Vondroušová. The only remaining top 10 seeds are No. 4 Elena Rybakina and No. 7 Jasmine Paolini.
