Veteran Yoruba actor, Ibrahim Bello Sanya, known as Baba Lawori, has accused Ganiyu “Koko Zaria” Oyedepo, a leader of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) in Lagos State, of assaulting him during the Idimu Day event on June 25, 2024.
In a viral video on his Instagram page, Lawori recounted the incident, saying, “While doing my work as an MC, a man came on stage to tell me that Koko Zaria was calling me. When I went to meet him, he asked why I didn’t recognize his presence. I apologized and promised to acknowledge him when I returned to the stage. As I turned back, a man with Koko Zaria broke a bottle of Martell on my head, causing me to lose consciousness and bleed profusely.”
Lawori, who described Koko Zaria as a threat to his life and career, pleaded for public support. “Since the attack, I’ve been in pain. I earn a living and support my family through MC jobs. If these attacks continue, I’ll be afraid to go for shows. Please help me,” he said.
Koko Zaria denied the allegations in an Instagram post, stating, “I did not tell anyone to break Lawori’s head. We are close, and he has never offended me. I saw the video where he accused me, but I did not order any attack.”
The police spokesperson, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, responded to the incident on X (formerly Twitter), promising a thorough investigation and justice. “This will be investigated, and justice will be served,” Adejobi assured.
