The Nashville Predators made significant additions on the first day of NHL free agency, signing star forward Steven Stamkos to a four-year, $32 million contract ($8 million AAV). The 34-year-old, who spent 16 seasons with the Tampa Bay Lightning, brings a wealth of experience and scoring prowess to Nashville. Stamkos, a two-time Stanley Cup champion, has 555 goals and 582 assists in 1,082 NHL games and had 40 goals last season.
Alongside Stamkos, the Predators also signed Jonathan Marchessault, Brady Skjei, and Scott Wedgewood. Marchessault, who helped the Vegas Golden Knights win the Stanley Cup in 2023, signed a five-year, $27.5 million contract ($5.5 million AAV). Skjei, coming off a career-high 47 points with the Carolina Hurricanes, inked a seven-year, $49 million deal ($7 million AAV). Wedgewood will compete for the backup goalie position after signing a two-year, $3 million contract ($1.5 million AAV).
Predators General Manager Barry Trotz expressed excitement about the new additions, emphasizing the team’s commitment to winning and building a competitive roster. The signings address key areas, boosting Nashville’s offense and solidifying their defense.
The Predators, who finished as the first wild card in the Western Conference last season, aim to make a deeper playoff run with these new acquisitions.
