A fire broke out at the Dangote Refinery in Ibeju-Lekki, Lagos State, on Wednesday. A video showed thick smoke billowing from the facility and the sound of an explosion was heard.
The cause of the fire remains unknown, but Anthony Chiejina, Group Chief Branding & Communications Officer of Dangote Industries Limited, confirmed the incident, stating it occurred at the effluent treatment plant (ETP) and was quickly contained.
Chiejina assured that the refinery is still operating with no injuries or harm reported among staff. The refinery, which has a capacity of 650,000 barrels per day, began production of diesel and aviation fuel in January and was inaugurated by former President Muhammadu Buhari in May 2023.
