Belgium will face France in the last 16 of Euro 2024 after a 0-0 draw with Ukraine in Stuttgart. Despite the draw, Ukraine exits the tournament, finishing bottom of Group E where all four teams ended with four points. Slovakia and Romania also drew 1-1 in Frankfurt, affecting the group standings.
Ukraine had chances to win the match, especially in added time when Georgiy Sudakov’s brilliant run ended with a shot straight at Belgian keeper Koen Casteels. Casteels also saved a near-post effort from Ruslan Malinovskyi.
Romania topped the group on goal difference, Belgium finished second, and Slovakia advanced as one of the best third-placed teams. Ukraine became the first team in the tournament’s history to be eliminated with four points.
Belgium’s performance was lackluster, raising questions about their form as they prepare to face France in Dusseldorf. Kevin De Bruyne’s efforts to create opportunities for Romelu Lukaku were notable, but the team needs to improve to advance further.
Georgiy Sudakov was a standout for Ukraine, displaying energy and quality in midfield. His late run and shot almost secured a win, but he was denied by Casteels.
