Shifty Shellshock, frontman of the rap-rock band Crazy Town, has passed away at the age of 49 at his home in Los Angeles. Born Seth Binzer, he was best known for Crazy Town’s 2001 hit single “Butterfly,” which topped the charts in the US and reached number three in the UK.
Shellshock co-founded Crazy Town in 1995 with Bret “Epic” Mazur, and the band gained prominence with their unique blend of hip-hop and rock influences. Their success was highlighted by “Butterfly,” a song that sampled a riff from the Red Hot Chili Peppers’ “Pretty Little Ditty” and resonated widely with audiences.
Despite initial challenges, including personal struggles with addiction that Shellshock openly addressed on reality TV shows like Celebrity Rehab, Crazy Town’s impact was significant in the music world. They disbanded in 2002 after the release of their second album, but Shellshock continued to pursue music through solo projects and occasional reunions.
Throughout his life, Shellshock battled with legal issues and health setbacks, including substance abuse and legal troubles. His passing has left a lasting impact on the music community, and he is survived by his three children: Halo, Gage, and Phoenix.
Authorities are currently investigating the cause of his death.
