WWE Hall of Famer Sika Anoa’i, one half of the legendary Wild Samoans tag team and father of current WWE star Roman Reigns, has passed away at the age of 79. Sika, whose real name was Polaivao Leati Sika Anoa’i, died peacefully on June 25, according to his family.
His nephew, Jahrus Anoa’i, shared the news on Instagram, honoring Sika’s legacy and impact: “Sika was a celebrated figure whose contributions and legacy have left an indelible mark. His memory will live on through his achievements and the many lives he touched. He was a hardworking father, a caring brother, a supportive uncle, and a proud grandfather.”
Sika, alongside his brother Afa, achieved great success as The Wild Samoans, becoming WWE Tag Team Champions in the 1980s. The duo was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame in 2007. Sika’s career spanned across WWF, NWA, and NJPW, making significant contributions to the wrestling world.
He was the father of WWE superstar Roman Reigns (real name Joseph Anoa’i) and the late WWE wrestler Rosey (real name Matt Anoa’i), who passed away in 2017 at the age of 47. Roman Reigns expressed gratitude for the support his family has received, stating, “My family and I thank everyone for the outpouring of support in the name of my father… There’s no way to fill the void left by his passing, but my sisters and I will do our best to represent him and his legacy. Rest in Power, Dad. We love you.”
The WWE released a statement mourning Sika’s passing and extended condolences to his family, friends, and fans. The wrestling community remembers Sika Anoa’i for his remarkable contributions and the lasting legacy he leaves behind.
