An early Sunday morning fire engulfed the headquarters of Christ Embassy Church in the Oregun area of Ikeja, Lagos State. Witnesses posted multiple videos of the massive blaze on social media, showing significant damage to the large church edifice.
The Lagos State Fire Rescue Service responded promptly to the scene after receiving the fire report at 07:27, arriving by 07:36. Firefighting units from the Alausa and Ikeja fire stations were deployed, and the fire was brought under control with no casualties reported.
The fire service director, Margaret Abimbola Adeseye, assured the public that the situation was under control and called for calm. She noted that an excavator was used to pull down parts of the building to prevent further structural collapse and ensure complete extinguishment. The cause of the fire remains unknown, and investigations are underway.
The police have cordoned off the area to maintain order. The church, led by influential pastor Chris Oyakhilome, has not reported any injuries or loss of life. Further updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
