Chelsea have shown interest in signing Lille striker Jonathan David, according to reports. The club has held talks with the 24-year-old Canadian international’s representatives as they seek to strengthen their attack for the upcoming season. David, who has scored 84 goals in 183 matches for Lille, is entering the final year of his contract, making him a potential target for a reasonable price.
Lille president Olivier Letang has indicated that David would be allowed to leave this summer, with Premier League clubs and AC Milan also showing interest. David joined Lille from Belgian side Gent four years ago and has been a crucial player, contributing to Lille’s Ligue 1 title win and their Trophee des Champions victory in 2021. He played every league game last season, scoring 19 goals to help Lille secure a fourth-place finish and Champions League qualification.
Chelsea’s good relationship with Letang, due to their ownership of Ligue 1 team Strasbourg, might facilitate negotiations. As Chelsea look to finalize their transfer plans, David remains high on their wishlist as they prepare for the new season.
