Portugal secured a place in the last 16 of Euro 2024 with a decisive 3-0 win over Turkey at BVB Stadion Dortmund, clinching the top spot in Group F.
Bernardo Silva opened the scoring at 21 minutes, netting his first European Championship goal with a deflected cross from Nuno Mendes. Just seven minutes later, Turkey’s Samet Akaydin mistakenly turned the ball into his own net, giving Portugal a 2-0 lead.
In the second half, Cristiano Ronaldo assisted Bruno Fernandes, who scored the third goal at 55 minutes, sealing Turkey’s fate. Portugal’s defense, led by the 41-year-old Pepe, was exceptional, earning him a standing ovation.
Portugal now heads to the knockout phase with one group game remaining against Georgia. Meanwhile, Turkey must earn at least a point against the Czech Republic to advance.
This victory matches Portugal’s record for their biggest win in European Championships, equalling their 3-0 victories over Croatia (1996), Germany (2000), and Hungary (2020).
