Nigerian superstar Rema has dropped a new track titled “Benin Boys,” featuring rising star Shallipopi. This release marks Rema’s first musical release of the year, following his massive hit “Calm Down” with Selena Gomez, which achieved unprecedented success on U.S. charts.
Released on June 21, 2024, “Benin Boys” showcases Rema and Shallipopi trading verses over heavy drums and stirring background strings. The song celebrates their success and status as two of the world’s hottest young artists. The track is accompanied by a vibrant music video directed by DK, featuring scenes in a neon-drenched nightclub, a private jet, and atop a church.
Earlier in the week, Rema won two ASCAP London Music Awards for “Calm Down,” including Song of the Year and Top Streaming Song. “Calm Down” had reached No. 3 on the Billboard Hot 100 and spent a record-setting 58 weeks atop the U.S. Afrobeats Songs chart. It also made history by reaching No. 1 on the all-genre Radio Songs chart, a first for a song by an African lead artist.
“Benin Boys” is Rema’s first official release under Interscope Records, following a partnership with Mavin Global. Fans can now stream “Benin Boys” on all major platforms.
