Former Ghanaian football star Michael Essien is facing financial difficulties as two of his luxurious mansions in Accra are set to be auctioned following a court order from the Accra High Court.
The Deputy Sheriff of the High Court (Commercial Division) issued the directive on June 12, 2024, leading to the impending sale of Essien’s properties located at Stephen Quarshie Crescent, East Legon, and Trassaco (Phase 2), Adjiringano, Accra. One of these estates is reportedly valued between $20 million and $30 million.
Essien, 41, who enjoyed a successful career playing for renowned clubs like Chelsea, Real Madrid, and AC Milan, has encountered financial troubles attributed to significant loans from various banks and financial institutions in Ghana, according to Africa Soccer.
The former midfielder, known for his impactful years at Chelsea where he helped secure major trophies including the Premier League, FA Cup, and UEFA Champions League, is now facing this legal and financial setback in his post-football life.
