Manchester United is expected to make a formal approach for Everton’s 21-year-old defender Jarrad Branthwaite, who has recently agreed to personal terms for a potential move to Old Trafford. United are keen on bolstering their defense, especially with Raphael Varane set to leave when his contract expires this summer. Branthwaite, a 6ft 4in centre-back, is highly regarded following a standout season with Everton and his selection for the England training squad for Euro 2024.
Everton, facing financial constraints and the need to comply with Premier League Profit and Sustainability Rules, may have to sell Branthwaite before the end of June. The club seeks to secure a transfer fee of around £70 million for the defender. Although Manchester City and Tottenham have also shown interest, Manchester United appears to be leading the race, offering Branthwaite a weekly salary between £150,000 and £160,000.
United manager Erik ten Hag, recently confirmed to continue in his role, aims to strengthen his squad’s defensive options after a series of injuries last season. Besides Branthwaite, United is also eyeing 18-year-old Lille defender Leny Yoro, with Liverpool and Real Madrid also interested in the young talent.
